Hi ! you didn't mention what zone you are in nor how much sun light your planting area gets.

What ever you decide wait till after the last frost to plant or put plants outside. Generally after Mother's day

Anyhow , I have some tips for you!

Here is a list of direct sow ( just plant right in the soil) easy flowers!

* Zinnia: Tall and very colorful. Sow seeds directly in soil in a sunny area. requires very little care but produces BEAUTIFUL tall flowers. Look http://www.gardenguides.com/plants/info/...
* Cosmos: Tall , mostly small pink/maroon flowers on lacy fern like plant. Super easy just sow seeds in sunny spot and water.
*Nasturtium: Vine like , mounding plant. Mostly pretty orange/yellow flowers on beautiful big leaves.. Grows in poor soil, with very little care. Also super in a hanging basket...thrives on neglect! look http://www.gardenguides.com/plants/info/...
*Marigolds: Pretty ball like flower, mostly yellow or light orange. You can buy seedlings or direct sow your own. Works in partial sun to sunny spots.LOOK http://www.gardenguides.com/plants/info/...
* Morning Glory : It's a super easy vine that grows blue flowers. requires sun! Start from seed near a fence or support and watch it go crazy ! Look http://www.gardenguides.com/plants/info/...
Sunflowers: Everybody loves Sunflowers ! Very easy to grow from seed. They just need sun and a some water ! Poor soil is OK too ! Makes people stop and stare. Try to find Russian mammoth variety seeds( walmart) They grow 10-12 feet high !

You can also buy seedlings in a tray ( called a flat) at a local nursery. Just wait till after the last frost to plant outside! That's AFTER Mother's day.
Here's a list of super easy Annual seedlings to try !

Inpatients: Great for shady spots ! Super easy only requires water to produce INCREDIBLE flowers! Space your seedlings about 8 inches apart and water and before long you will have a18- 24 inch carpet of flowers! They last till a good frost! A great flower to start with ! works great in containers too ! Just remember to WATER !
New Guinea Inpatients: Similar to above just bigger and brighter and better in sunnier spots !

Don't forget summer flower bulbs !

Here's the easiest and best !
Begonias ! If you want great color and have shade try Begonias !
Also Dahlias are great ... they come in some many beautiful colors and are EASY ! also work great in pots !
Got sun ? Love Tropical looking flowers Try Cannas ! Or Elephant Ears! If you like BIG TROPICAL FOILAGE !
Try looking at burpee.com or park seed. These websites will give you ideas. Go to local nursery to buy and ask questions!
Also , try planning your garden on paper.. Don't forget to have fun and keep little notes about your plantings. This summer try looking at your friends and neighbors flower gardens for Next year's inspiration!

plant tulips you only need to plant them once and they will come out by themselves in april and stay till octoberish. dere excelelnt for me cuz i dont like replanting too lazyy. lol
