I only buy a few stamps at a time and expect to use them up before a rate increase, so it doesn't matter what I buy as far as cost is concerned. Right now I am using some that support the Boy Scouts. So I guess that I am one of the "stupid" people

The best time to buy the Forever stamp is after a rate increase has been announced but before the increase goes into effect.
Another thing: Don't forget where you keep them stored!

the post office is a govt agency that is required by law to make a profit. no way are they going to lose money on a so called forever stamp. forever will last until the postmaster general says don't honor the stamp any longer. political appointees to be trusted? not in this lifetime!

This is very trivial...I will purchase the stamps and since I am never getting married...when my grandchildren get married we will see if those forever stamps can be used to mail the invitations..but really It is an excellent idea...but it does make one wonder why would they do that now...in this year?

no forever stamp for me. Lol I'd most likely drop dead the day I got it and never get my money's worth out of it.

Sure, I'll buy a few rolls...you know the first class rates are bound to go up in the following years, so why not save a few bucks?

Not really. In the day of email and IM, snail mail is only really needed for expressing formaility and announcing important events like a pregnancy or a wedding.
