The reason and purpose is EQUALITY. The school sees every student as equal regardless of how rich or poor their family backgrounds. Every student has an equal right to an education in that institution. All students, as one, represent the school. That is why it is called a school uniform.....UNIFORM......ONE.

We are facing this this fall. Last spring the school board announced a meeting to discuss uniforms for students as well as a dress code for teachers. the teachers said that they would agree to the dress code if the students had uniforms. At the meeting, the parents that showed up for the meeting, voted to have uniforms. At the end of th year, they sent home what the uniform would consist of. Now that we are a few weeks away from school opening, there are people protesting the uniforms. personally I wish that parents (and teachers) had sense enough to follow the simple dress code so we wouldn't have to go to these extremes.

The way many school districts are drawn up these days many schools have students from many different socio economic levels. By having students wear uniforms it takes away the distraction that some students have more expensive highly desired clothing.
There was a period where students were getting hurt because they had name brand jacket or shoes that others would steal or cause bodily harm to get.

a person that is from a poor family can answer that. It doesnt matter how smart they are, they are looked upon horribly. Its the ones with all the expensive clothes that get the attention. Is that really fair? If every one is dressed the same, all are equal. Im sick of name brands and kids wanting 500 dollar a pair tennis shoes. give me a break.

You are in school to learn NOT to 'out dress' everyone else.
It is more cost effective, for parents, to buy uniforms for their children. Then they can have more money set aside for their childs/children's higher education expenses.
There should be a law, nation wide, ALL school aged children MUST wear uniforms to school!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So that the students focus more on their academics and less on one's attire. It also puts everyone on the same playing field so that those who aren't as well off don't feel the pressure to compete socially when the purpose of school is academic success.

To be more "uniform" -in other words not to stand out, but concentrate on what is more important at hand. Education.

Because some parents don't care what their children look like and would send them to school in closes that just don't belong.. ex. mini skirts, mid-drift tops, shorty shorts.. things like that don't be long in schools..
