How can I get a toy that's lodged pretty deep in the toilet? I've used a plunger and a snake to try to push it through, but no such luck.

Use one of these. You will need to open the wire ball in the end so it can grab the toy.

You might need to unbolt the toilet, and turn it over to dislodge it. Total cost for new wax ring about $2. Tool is around $30. With kids, it will pay for itself on the first use.

If you want to save some money you can do it yourself. There should be a water shut off behind the toilet. Turn off the water and flush the toilet to drain the water. Disconnect the water supply, Take off the two nuts holding down the toilet, one on each side. Lift the toilet from its spot and turn it on it's side you should be able to get at the toy. check the wax ring aroound the opening in the floor, if it is in tact, not torn or ripped, just replace the toilet. If the wax ring is damaged they cost like 2 bucks at any lowes, or such. It is really a simple task and save the money a plumber would charge. You do not want to push it down into the main drain pipe, that will eventually cause toilet paper and , well you know, to back up and that will be costly. Have fun.

Turn the water off, remove the entire toilet, get the "toy", go buy a new wax ring ( when you remove the toilet, the old wax ring loses the seal, so you'll need a new one, they're cheap) and last but not least re-install your toilet. TaDa! Don't be scared or waist your money on a plumber. Toilets are a lot easier to work with than it sounds even though I tried my best to make it sound very easy. Good Luck!

Pull up the toilet. Go buy a new wax seal and a new set of bolts to hold the toilet down. They are cheap and I always replace the bolts because they can get rusty and give you alot of trouble down the road. Put the toilet in the tub and turn it upside down to get the toy out. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the tank - might cause a leak at the seal. I have had to replace toilets because I could not get toys, deodorant tops, plastic balls and other things out. Good luck.

bite the bullet and reach in and grab it...If you have small hands you might be able to reach it. (I had to do that once). Otherwise, you disconnect the toilet and try and reach it from the other direction. You'll have to get a new wax ring when you re-install it but that is cheaper than calling a plumber.

Stop trying to push it. Get a metal coat hanger, use the hook end and see if you can pull it back out. If not, you may have to take the trap apart to remove it.
