Al Sharpton has denied making anti-Semitic remarks over the years and no one has ever come forth with proof of such remarks.

He apologized for using the term "white interloper" in 1995. So why is that apology acceptable where Imus' was not? Well for one thing, advertisers began pulling support for the show, which is the real reason he was fired. You can't work somewhere if there isn't any money with which to pay you.

White racist crimes and attacks against black people have a long history in America and are far more widespread than the reverse. Add to that, the overwhelming majority of white people don't want to acknowledge that past or it's effects on present behavior - both theirs and blacks.

Black racist crimes against whites have no similar history because power is required to commit racist attacks and since black people having any power in our society is relatively new, the instances of occurrence are FAR, FAR fewer and by comparison, insignificant.

Many have said that Imus does a lot of good so that excuses him, but this is a childish argument. During the Great Depression the KKK used to help feed poor white families in Indiana until the truth about their racist activities and lynchings surfaced and they were stopped and their leader jailed. If any of those families went hungry it wasn't because of the people who complained about the KKK hunting black men for sport. Similarly, that Imus lost his job isn't the fault of those who protested, it's the fault of Imus and his producer.

You may say that it's just a joke but hasn't anyone ever made a joke about you that you didn't think was funny? You were in a position to object and/or walk away or demand an apology, were you not? Historically speaking, and even in some places in America today, if a black person is made fun of and doesn't like it, he can't object because if he does he'll get a beat-down.

People who dismiss Sharpton and Jackson as racists are the same kind of people who dismiss Martin Luther King, Jr. as a communist and turned fire hoses on peaceful civil rights protesters in Alabama.

Imus didn't need to mess with those girls, all they were doing was playing basketball.

I find most people to be hypocrites in general.

I think it is one of the many flaws in human behavior.

For example, if a Black radio talk show host had made a racist remark about a White women's basketball team and then a couple of White evangelical conservative preachers called for him to be fired, some of the same people who are criticizing Sharpton and Jackson would be praising those White preachers.

I'm not defending Imas, Sharpton, or Jackson, but I am saying that most people are hypocrites. The only way to change that is for us to be consistent with our criticisms and our praise regardless of who we are criticizing or praising.

I have very little hope for humankind because I am a bit misanthropic, but who knows there might be some hope for us all.

Cheers.

That's obviously part of their chemistry ..but I also believe they are a tool for the liberal democrat party - just as Cindy Sheehan is . I'm not an Imus fan either - and did not know enough about him to form an opinion - but it would have to be that I couldn't take 5 minutes of watching him on TV, if I accidentally tuned in . He didn't interest me in the slightest ..
However , when blatant hypocrisy can dictate morality ..someone has to speak out . Imus was used for political reasons and not to further any so-called black cause .
