I've done it off and on for years. It is NOT a scam, however, the pay is low, typically $3.00 per shop. Some companies pay more, depending on the complexity of the shop and if there is an "urgent" time frame for completing the shop.

You must have excellent writing skills, as the shopper must complete reports in writing and submit them to the Mystery Shop company.

Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets is necessary. For more infomation go to: MysteryShop.org (the organization that certifies Mystery Shoppers.)

Often you get to keep the merchandise, unless the company for whom you are doing the shop, wants it returned.

I did shops for Godiva, Subway Sandwich and other companies.

I did it in the mid 90's. They give you an "assignment" and then you fill out a questionnaire and then they send you like $15.00.

I liked it because I got to go to restaurants for free. What I hated is that I had to go to apartment complexes and other places and pretend to need services just to see how they treated me. I really didn't want to use my spare time going to places just for the heck of it for $15.00.

If you are new to your city or need some spare change, it is a great way to learn about new businesses and new areas.
