I think they are because of the following reasons: 1) they are a booming economic country set to pass the US by 2025 and they are increasing military spending by 19% each year despite having no wars or conflicts. 2) They are strong allies with North Korea which we all know is a very unstable and potentially lethal country. 3) they have a lot of resentment towards Japan from WWII which roughly correlates to Germany's attitude after their loss in WWI. 4) They have a communist government printing nationalist propaganda and promoting the pride and power of the Chinese people - sound familiar? and Lastly, all information on China in rest of the world is given by the Chinese government. It is estimated that in actuality the government is spending about 3x the amount reported on military expansion. What do others think, especially Chinese nationals themselves? Please respond with your thoughts.

The estimation of when they will overtake America reminds me of similar estimations on Japan. They have the potential to be a dangerous enemy but most likely will become friendlier or remain in the category of competitor rather like Russia is. It would be very difficult for China to rise to the level of the US in military capabilities. It seems pretty doubtful to me that they would focus on anything besides regional dominance. Japan, if it wanted to, could become a major military power. China would have to hold back some so as to not frighten Japan into an arms race.

Potentially, yes. But that is the case for ANY nation that achieves a significant power advantage over other nations. We only need to look at the USA today to know that, and Germany pre-WW2 was, as you suggest, another example.

But we are now increasingly living in a world where threats such as global warming are facing ALL nations, including China. Also, because of globalisation, China is unlikely to attack the rest of the world who are, after all, the customers for all the goods it now manufactures!

So, increasing economic and environmental interdependence should increasingly mean that the challenges we will face are COMMON ones; ones of how ALL nations can cooperate to solve many mounting global problems. One way citizens can drive their governments towards that goal is offered at http://www.simpol.org. You might want to take a look.

Quite possibly. The only threat to their growing influence are the Chinese themselves. China has a pretty devastating military but if the people stood up for their rights i don't think the army could hold down 1.3 Billion people.

The US has been supporting Taiwan's independence but China wants to keep a vise grip on the people there. This is a big point of contention with China and the world.

this is stupid to think of every person is a international ability. ability does not come from historical past even though it does come from lifestyle and from the human beings of that united states of america. After sequence of terrorist assaults carried by ability of a few of its very own human beings (foiled attack on aircrafts), can England unquestionably think of that way. i think of its an previous thinking merely because of the fact of its historical past. In todays N-international, no person is a real superpower. only the guy who can convey order and peace to the international would be termed a superpower. --------------------------------------... And a be conscious for people who help terrorism- its stupid which you will get heaven by ability of killing harmless human beings, there is not any such subject. you're all merely filthy murderers, no longer the rest.

How many did we kill in Viet Nam? Korea? Iraq? Afghanistan? El Salvador? Here in the USA?

I think China is a close second (as far as scary countries with a renegade leader are concerned...) but they are only so powerful because we have outsourced all of our own jobs to them...

China was a toothless tiger until Bill Clinton allowed the Loral Corporation (a big Clinton supporter) to sell top secret missile technology. This was so reckless a decision that Clinton's own State Department pleaded with him not to do it.

The technology solved the only problem China's ICBM's were having. They could not get the second stage to disengage consistently. Loral sold them that solution. Now, they are a threat to us.

He also allowed the sale of high speed, high powered computers to China. So now they have solved the target aquision and aiming problems.

And people want to elect his wife? I will never understand democrats.
