CBS just did a story about the increasing new middle class in Russia. The rising class is more interested in their lifestyle improving than to bother with getting involved with politics and protest. They don't want to look at the ugly anymore. Now that's fast track progress.

Dumbuster, the question was posed as sarcastic. I was trying to get local news as we are experienceing bad weather.

But with your choice of words, and name-calling, and use of intellect, I wonder if Fox News really wants you rallying viewers for them. That is more NBC, CBS, and ABC's style, buddy.

Socialism can work. In fact, most countries in the world practice some form of socialism as an economic model, including the US.

Socialism just refers to the central government owning some industries and/or providing specific social programs that are paid for out of govt revenues (usually taxes). AmTrak, the Post Office, many state utility companies, federal welfare and social security -- these are just a few of many examples of socialism in practice in the US.

But what you are talking about is capitolism -- the middle class caring about it's own property and lifestyle, and not funnelling money through the government.

These new Russian middle classes don't care that Putin is seizing more and more power away from them. There were people ARRESTED today for having a peaceful protest against Putin. There is no free press in Russia any longer, anyone who disagrees with the government is quickly silenced. Putin's former KGB cronies have many positions of power within the Russian government.

Russia is going to become a dictatorship like it was between at least Stalin and Gorbachov's time, and it's going to abandon even the pretence that it's for the people. Just wait and see.

As for socialism - Europe is proof it can work - many European countries have much higher degrees of socialism than the US, yet their economies are still thriving. They have good public services which are either free or heavily subsidised by the state - meaning EVERYONE can access decent healthcare (for instance) instead of it being the domain of the rich.

To go from nothing to something is not hard. Wait until the communists get complete control.
