Just wondering...once a transmission starts shifting less smoothly (assuming that's due to degenerating transmission), how long might it continue to run? How do you know when it's kaput? Does it just stop one day?

It might run for another 50,000 miles. One sticky control valve can make it shift rough.

probably soon and only time wil tell .. and yep your just about right
