NO!
Sheep are always "ok" for the draft as long as they aren't the ones drafted.
There is nothing more immoral for a government to force it's citizens to fight a war. Military service should be on a volunteer basis not compulsory. Even military leaders are against using draftees because they make poor soldiers. Just ask anyone drafted for the Vietnam War. I'm sure they were happy to go.

Perhaps we should evaluate the reason(s) for needing a draft. To support a no win war and promote militarization based on "policing the world" has little hope of success. As a defensive goal with the emphasis placed on having a "ready reserve" not to be exploited at political whim might gather some support. The problem arises as how would the political parties utilize this facility. We had no deficit as under the leadership of President Clinton the "bill was paid" until President Bush was elected and not being in debt allowed the inappropriate funding of the present Mideast crisis. So maybe the answer to your question remains as to how the military might be compromised by inept decisions. The draft might be a blessing or a curse.

A draft should be fought to protect our borders not to fight a nation in another land...which was already proven to have no connections with 9/11...their leader was just a douche.
Be very afraid of a President when the draft is instituted in this situation...
It is unconstitutional for the President to declare Martial law...and to use the military to police the US...but who would stop him...he controls the military and all federal law enforcement.

today the draft isn't an decision. i think it grow to be a mistake to fully drop it to commence with. it would want to leave us with so a lot extra helpful decision for human beings to serve. Nam vets were no longer properly treated and colour did not make an outstanding variety of distinction. For those human beings that've served a log time contained in the service knows its no longer the colour of someone's epidermis that counts it the fellow it quite is donning that epidermis that counts. there received't be a draft now yet that does no longer recommend it in basic terms isn't reinstated sometime contained in the destiny. desire of the country is what counts

As a member of the younger generation, I agree with reinstating the draft. That would do several things for America. First, it would be the kick in the pants that we, the younger generation, desperately need. If I had a draft to fear, I would never have dropped out of college. This raises another question, however. Who should get out of the draft? In my opinion, no one. Everyone should serve two years. Right after high school. If you don't finish high school, you go into the infantry, immediately, with no training. This will not only help teach the younger generation what is really important (it's not your ipod or your car or your shoes), it will teach the bulk of the population what it truly means to serve and be a soldier. We are at a unique point in American history. We currently have the smallest percentage of our population to have seen a war first hand in the history of our country. This is a dangerous situation. If we don't know what war is, then we are more likely to support going to war. Also, in the unlikely event of a major conflict or invasion, we would have nominally trained citizens ready to take up arms. College students don't get out of it this time around, either. The cost of tuition has risen more than 30 percent in the past few years, making it even harder for people from lower incomes to attend college. Military service coming just after high school will show everyone what it means to work for a living, and work hard. This way, kids will understand how much it can suck, and choose to go to and complete college. In this day and age of America, I think it's necessary for everyone to do their part. No one seems willing to sacrifice on their own, so why not make it a requirement. If we are truly involved in the greatest struggle of our generation, as the administration tells us, then why shouldn't we all sacrifice?

No thank you. The military has a difficult job as it is without adding a bunch of self centered lazy obstinate youth to the mix. I could just see these lazy lil ba$tards the first time they had to actually move something other than their fingers on a keyboard. They would be crying and wanting to hire civilian lawyers. Then you would have the additional problem of what to do with all the fat kids there are out there today. When we have a real national emergency then go for the draft and we can deal with these problems by just shooting them and getting the problem out of our way.

Yes, the draft would probably cause the war to end relatively quickly. Nothing causes people to become concerned with an issue like being directly involved in that issue. Would also cause people to focus on something other than themselves.
As an aside, all the gung-ho GOP keyboard commandos would quickly find reasons to not support the war and demand a speedy end.

I am ineligible for a draft due to partial blindness so my opinion matters very little. Historically conscript armies do a very poor job. one of the reasons that the US army was so effective in the past is it is a volunteer army. The drafted soldier in Vietnam did a good job but was prevented from doing what was necessary to win that war. I feel the same is happening now. I say no draft. This war is a lie and illegal! Lets cut and run now. There will be chaos when we leave and terrorists will gain a stronger foot hold but for that we are to blame. Say what you want about Saddam, but the terrorists were not welcome in Iraq until we destabilized it to find Bush's Weapons of Mass Deception.

If we continue with this foolish war, we have no choice but to reinstate the draft. If some other country were to attack us right now, we have no soldiers to defend as they are all in the Middle East.

Any movement towards a draft at this point is political posturing by the opposition. Neither Bush or high ranking commanders have asked for a draft at this stage.
