Because he made hateful, racist remarks about female athletes of color. That's the heart of it.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson contacted the sponsors of Imus' show and threatened them with a boycott. CBS became nervous so they fired him.
I have never had a prejudice against blacks. But when Jesse Jackson made a slur against the Jews and took three days to apologize, well, then the shoe is on the other foot.
The other issue is that blacks have used the word "ho" in their rap and hip-hop music. It's become commonplace to use that word. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, Jaime Fox called Oprah a ho on her program. It was a "ha-ha-ha" moment. Now, Imus gets busted for using a common term. WRONG!!!
If you saw the clip of Imus saying what got him in deep trouble, it wasn't with malice or anger or prejudice. Anybody who has listened/watched his show knows that Bernie was the one who would say terrible things. I have heard a lot worse on TV from stand-up comics and rappers.

Because he is an ancient fossil with no relevance in today's young, urban market. And the urban market's ties to the suburbs is the only market to consider these days -- (every commercial on television has some bullshit hip-hop theme music to it) because young, working class kids with disposable incomes are hip hop junkies whose purchase power is far more important to advertisers than Imus or what comes out of his mouth. Only those with a lack of consciousness would blame it on race because I have been a fan of Imus' for years and he has never been a particular friend of the "*****".

Oh my blessed Gods! I've ranted and raved about this repeatedly. Certain members of the black community are so hyper-sensitive it's disgusting. Where is the outrage when I, as a pasty white woman, am referred to as a "bi*tch" or a "ho"? If not both.
Do not dare tell me this isn't about rap music. It's about language. Period.
Why isn't the black community up in arms over this? Do they not understand that Sharpton and Jackson are making them look like whiney little babies? Stand up to them, dammit!!! Do not allow their ultra PC crap talk to degrade you any further!

He was fired because women and blacks aren't going to take this crap anymore. Calling a group of college girls "ho's", is he out of his mind? Let me answer that...yes. His mean-spirited type of talk is losing ground and its about time!
