I absolutely love drumming, but haven't been able to practice much lately because it can get so loud. Does anyone have any tips to quiet it down without going to an electric set?

I am a musician and have taught snare drum and drum set for 20 years! Save your money on the drum pads, but a drum pad can be a good way to practice or warm up in a small place. Try this trick:

It is amazing how quiet a drum set can be with just a thin layer of cloth over each drum head. The thinner the cloth is, the more "natural" the feel of the head. You can use just a wash cloth (face cloth) but all that is needed is something as thin as a handkerchief! The thinner the cloth is, the more difficult it is to get it to stay in place. A little strip of tape will usually do the trick, depending upon the weight of the cloth and the tilt of the drum, but sometimes more than one strip is necessary! Spring-loaded wooden clothespins also work and won't damage your rims! The bass drum can be effectively muffled by just putting a bath towel against the head(s)! I cut a hole in the front head and just a wash cloth over the edge of the hole makes a great muffler on the gig. You can stuff a bath towel (or other heavier cloth) inside the hole to muffle both heads! You can buy heads with pre-cut holes to get an extra amount of control over the sound.

Experiment until you get the effect you need. The more the surface of the head is covered, the quieter the resulting sound will be.

While playing a gig, many "old pros" used to muffle their snare drum heads with their handkerchiefs, for the quieter songs at least. Sometimes you have to put your watch, or your wallet or other heavier object on it to get it to stay in place.

My son is a prepared drummer. whilst he drums, the place of living does shake, yet thankfully we live in the process nowhere. We tried each and each approach to decrease the noise (i develop into hectic approximately his ears), yet no longer something fairly worked. My suggestion ought to be to get an digital drum kit on the initiating.

This might sound silly but I would tie a piece of soft cloth over the drumstick heads and it should deaden the tone..whether you're a jazz or rock drummer.

i heard that u can use pillows but it's a stupid idea, u can't. the only way is to strike them mercifully and they won't be that noisy.
or pad the room with something.
