since where in the era of if a movie was successful it almost always gets a sequel, i want to know which one's did a great job of making the 2nd,3rd, however many they made better than the original

I agree with The Godfather II as well as Aliens, Empire Strikes Back, and Rocky 2. But the best sequel by far (meaning way better than the original) is Terminatior 2: Judgement Day. The original was good, this sequel was way better. Many sequels are better than the first movie, but this one trumps them all.

Many people consider 'The Empire Strikes Back' to be the best of all the Star Wars movies and it was the sequel.
But the most amazing example of lightning striking twice Is:
'Toy Story 2'
It is every bit as good if not better then "Toy Story'. But Toy Story it self was an incredible achievement. It was the first full length movie to be totally CGI and it was a wonderfully engaging story in every way and it was completely original.

the IF sequels mirror the Godfather sequels-
I is great,
II is phenomenal,
III is unncecessary!

The Road Warrior was far superior to Mad Max.
I loved Star Wars, but think Empire Strikes Back was a stronger moive and...Superman II kicked butt!
