I just answered a similar question that you may find the answer to by looking at my profile and questions I've answered. I just answered before yours. I do have additional information. At this time of the year, especially if the area where you are living has had an excessive amount of rain, you will be plagued with several kinds of ants. If you use the bait or suggestions from other answerer's to the other question, please keep everything away from your dog. A good temporary solution is to put Vaseline or PAM cooking spray around the edge of the food dish and the ants won't be able to climb in. I feed several dogs outside during the summer months and this method has been very successful thus far and is not harmful to the dog. Carpenter Ants are large and bite hard. You can see the biting mouthparts on them and they are solid black. They are longer than 2-3 grains of rice. They do more damage than termites.

3 weeks in the past I had an identical problem and had used ant powder. I printed a question on Yahoo and replaced into given severe suggestion about exterminators etc. All it mandatory replaced into time. Time for the ants to flow decrease back to their nest with the powder and kill the others there. be affected individual and it would style. it type of feels to be a seasonal project. make positive no little ones or pets can get to the powder because it received't do them any sturdy!

I have ants periodically and have found a product called Kero. I buy it from the hardware store. If you are looking for a natural way to keep them at bay try a "border" of red pepper around the baseboard.

It's a seasonal thing. Why windex? It might kill the ones you see, but does nothing to the ones that are waiting to come in. Take the dog outside and spray all the baseboards of every wall, then put out the little metal traps.

normal answers would probably say to put poison all over- which will work, but can pose a health risk to children and pets in the house- try this- ants HATE Cinnamon and or peppermint oil- i swear- i sprinkle it when/where i get ants and the problem disappears- i don't know if the ants die, but they do leave the house...

You may have "carpenter ants". If they are regular ants just buy a home safe ant killer. If they are carpenter ants you need a specific product. You also need to check for wood damage.

this has more to do with the season changes than cleanliness. seal all cracks in your floor, walls, and cupboards.
after the dog's meal, wash the bowl and put it away. this will not tempt any creatures to share the food. this will also keep your dog healthier.
