Recently, I have been slightly itchier in the vaginal area. It isn't too bad, but can be irritating. It is especially itchier, however, when I urinate. I have not done anything different recently, and am a virgin so have not had intercourse. I have been engaged in a little bit of other "sexual activity," however, fairly recently. Other than the itching, the only other thing that was odd was that I recently had a yellow, thick discharge. It has only happened once. I have never had a yeast infection or anything else. I know many of you will say I should go to the Dr. and get it checked out and I plan to, but I don't have time for at least a week. Any suggestions on what you think this might be?
Also, this was just out of curiosity (not saying I have one!!), what are other ways to contract STD's besides obviously intercourse?

This could very well be a yeast infection but the only way to find out is to see the dr. Since you can't get in for a week you could try cool sitz baths to see if that helps ease some of the itchiness and irritation that you feel. When you call to schedule the appt let them know that you would like to have an infection check because you think that you might have a yeast infection.
