Some day man will be extinct, and over millions of years the earth will swallow up all traces of mankind's existence. The surface of the moon, however, preserves history for eons.
Should a grand structure be built on the moon and filled with mankind's history, discoveries, philosophies, culture, and life on earth?
Would such an international project give mankind something else to do for a few decades other than kill one another?

Build it on Mars
When we went to the moon I figued we would be on Mars by 2,000. All they have done since then is circle the earth and spend money. I'm really begining to doubt they ever went.

Yes, that is a brilliant idea. As long as we don't have liberals running the project. They will want to keep out any mention of the Bible and the Holocaust.
I would put a small library with about 5000 books on microfiche and paper books, all the religious texts in a many languages, Shakespear to Stephen King as well as many mythologies and legends from ancient to new. Of course, several history books from all over the word. Photos, etchings, books on maths, sciences and art!

It may take up the time of people, but, unless you pay to take a tour to the moon, not many people are going to see it. As well, comets hit the moon in many places and would probably damage any structures on it. Even if the predicted sun explosion in five billion years comes, the structure wouldn't last that long... Quite an interesting prospect, but, unfortunately, it seems unlogical.

It would be a tremendous waste of resources. When the earth goes, it will likely be because the sun will swallow it up in a billion years or so. Guess what, the moon is going to go right along with it.

That would be a great idea, but the you would never be able to get the resources nor the political will to do that. We aren't going to be able to put people on the moon for another 15 years, if NASA makes their goal. First they would have to make a base up their (hard enough) and then supplies would have to be shipped up there. The cost would easily be in the billions.
A great idea, but highly unlikely.

Man can build museums in the moon and even in Mars before the expiration of human race due to global warming or nuclear war.

We'd kill each other fighting over what goes in the museum.
