are there any vauxhall mechanics who can help? my v6 vectra whines all the time it sounds like a jet plane sitting on a runway is it the power steering pump or something else?

It's almost impossible to diagnose this one with so little information. It could be the steering pump, it could be tensioner on the main belt, it could be the water pump, it could be the bearing on the viscous fan..... I could go on...
Can you supply any more details?

Ade being a v6 your best bet is remove the timing belt cover and listen while engine is ticking over ,turn the steering wheel at the same time if it whines then it is power steering pump ,increase the revs gradually and listen closer again for problem area ,good luck check for steering fluid leaks

Really need to know where the noise is coming from, im fairly sure power steering is electric on all models, but i may be wrong so the early ones may have a pump which could whine.
Possibly your auxiliary or cam belt where the tensioner has become to tight and the pulleys are struggling to turn.
Need more info really

mmm.... You don;t say which Vectra.... I had a 'ninety 8 P-reg one and it had some thing similar.. once you became the steerage completely to the left there replaced into one of those grinding noise from the drivers wheel section. did not ensue at the same time as became to the right. became out to be low steerage fluid and damaged seals on the steerage rack.... Does the grinding noise look to compare the speed of the engine or the line wheels ? sturdy success !

Check if anything is stuck in the tail pipe - maybe a squirrel, rat (if you're in New York) or something!
