The time limit varies from State to State. In Florida there is a three year limit for small claims for property and 5 years with personal injury. Motor vehicle accidents the time limit is 2 years unless special circumstances exist.

There's a statute of limitations which will outline the time period you have to sue in. The limitations period is generally between 3 - 7 years but can be as low as 2 or as high as 12.

In the UK it's 3 years if say the case is medical negligence (I know this from my husband's experience) as that's what our Statute of Limitations is, although if it's a Traffic Offence (say speeding) the Police have to inform you of their intention to prosecute within 14 days. I believe that the same statutes of time limitation do not exist for children, ie if you were under 16 when you allege medical negligence took place, there is no time limit.

It depends based on the state (or country/province) and the type of lawsuit. Even within the same state, a breach of contract action may have a different time limit than a negligence claim or a civil lawsuit for assault or other torts.

It varies by state in the US. And it depends on what you are suing them FOR. For personal injury claims, in Pennsylvania it's 2 years; in New York, it's 3.

There are prescriptive periods for suing persons and corporations depending upon the offenses committed. For simple cases, the period is shorter and for other offenses, the period is longer when the gravity of the crime or violation increases.
