The zodiac sign was named first.
They both got their name because it is something that begins in one spot and spreads outward in all directions, like a crab and its legs. "Cancer" is from the Middle English for crab. Middle English was spoken around the 1300-1400's.

Well, all of the zodiac signs are named after constellations, but to find out why they named one of them after the cancer the crab you would have to go ask the babylonians, greeks, or egyptians of ancient times. It appears that "cancer" was already used as a sign around 1350 BCE, but of course I don't know the validity of that information.

This is one of the 13 constellations of the Zodiac.
Cancer, the Crab, plays a minor role in the Twelve Labors of Hercules. While Hercules was busy fighting the multi-headed monster, Hydra, the goddess Hera, who did not like Hercules, sent the Crab to distract him. Cancer grabbed onto the hero's toe with its claws, but barely breaking the rhythm of his great battle with Hydra, Hercules crushed the crab with his foot. Hera, grateful for the little crustacean's heroic but pitiful effort, gave it a place in the sky.
Cancer is famous despite itself due to its Zodiacal origins. In fact, it is very faint with no stars brighter than 4th magnitude.

The zodiac sign name are just arbitrary name someone came up with, and for the lack of anything better, they adopted the list of zodiac sign names.

cause when u get cancer Ur moody and people who r cancers are usually very moody
or cancer is deadly some cancers r mentally hill so the r deadly they might kill u

Because when you have cancer you get moody, and if your zodiac sign is Cancer, they say you are always irrtable and very moody!!!
