I'm looking for any information on a possible remake of the 1983 movie based on S.E. Hinton's amazing novel. I've seen the 2004 casting request, but that's it. Has anyone else seen or heard any other information?

I know it's a classic, but it's aged it's self a bit. At the time the movie was filmed, most of the actors were rising stars...nobody had even heard of Tom Cruise! If they remade the movie, it would be an awesome opportunity for new actors, because of the original movie's popularity.

I know it would be evil to top the old one...you'd definately need to have introductions from the original actors! And you're right, Tommy Howell will always be Ponyboy Curtis!

Also, does anyone have any opinions on a remake cast? I was thinking possibly for Ponyboy, maybe Max Thieriot (from The Pacifier and Nancy Drew). Also, maybe Shia LaBeouf as Darry?

^^^^There's the 2004 casting call that I was refering to, but I don't think it was even made.

I've been to IMDB. There's a thread there that sparked my question. I wanted to reach a broader range of people to see if anyone had heard any scrap of information. The most avid fans are on that IMDB forum, but there's still limited information (plenty of fanfiction, however).

I've kind of exhausted information. I've watched the extended DVD several times, with and without the actor's voice overs. I've been to the movie and book website. I can also recite the first page of the book from memory, if anyone cares (I know you don't!).

I'd love to see the original casting director and director remake the movie. Stay close to the original, but give new rising actors a chance to play these amazing characters!

I looked, there was no mention of the 2004 remake on IMDB, however I found the official site that has lots of awesome information.

if you go to the part about the movie there is all kinds of information about things that went on behind the scenes and how they got some of the effects they did.

I personally think it would be very difficult to remake. I don't think it would have the same appeal that the original did. Times are very different and well I really don't see the point. I liked the book, I liked the movie and if I want to see it again - I'll go rent the movie, I don't need a new version.

I think Hollywood would be better off investing in creative talent to get a NEW Original story that captures our attention, not just remaking and ripping off older great stories.

They have been breaking the regulation via showing video clips with out permission of the rights holders. Being what they have been doing is unlawful, no different internet site legitimately would be doing the same element. in case you elect to bypass watch present day theatrical releases, bypass to the cinema to work out them. sure you pay slightly, yet this is the factor of the gadget. in case you elect to visual show unit resent "on DVD" video clips, you elect Netflix or Amazon. back, sure they're pay because of the fact of how the gadget works.
