Anything by Tamora Pierce is really good. She has written a lot of books. They are:

These take place in Tortall:

The Song Of The Lioness Quartet-These are about a girl who illegaly becomes a knight...
1. Alanna: The First Adventure
2. In The Hand Of The Goddess
3. The Woman Who Rides Like A Man
4. Lioness Rampant

The Immortals Quartet-These are about a girl who has animal magic...
1. Wild Magic
2. Wolf-Speaker
3. Emperor Mage
4. In The Realms Of The Gods

Protector Of The Small Quartet-These are about the first girl to take advantage of the law that says girls can become knights...
1. First Test
2. Page
3. Squire
4. Lady Knight

Daughter Of The Lioness Series(At least I think that's what these are called...)-These are about a girl who becomes a slave then a spy...
1. Trickster's Choice
2. Trickster's Queen

Beka Cooper Series(Only one book has been written in this series so far)-These are about a girl who becomes one of the Provost's Dogs...
1. Terrier

These take place in Emelan:

Circle Of Magic Quartet-These are about four mages with different types of powers...
1. Sandry's Book
2. Tris's Book
3. Daja's Book
4. Briar's Book

The Circle Open's Quartet-These are about the same 4 mages as the the circle books, but they have students...
1. Magic Steps
2. Street Magic
3. Cold Fire
4. Shatterglass

The Circle Reforged-This is about the same four mages as above, trying to become better friends...
1. The Will Of The Empress

That's it... I told you she wrote a lot, but it's all good!

Though you may be hesitant, I do suggest classic novels. I just finished Jane Eyre, and I'm 13 so it's not very hard to read (it just requires patience!). The Chronicles of Narnia are great fantasy books with thought provoking messages, even though they are meant for a younger age group.
I also highly suggest any books by Madeleine L'Engle. Her books about the Austin family (Meet the Austins, The Moon by Night, The Young Unicorns, etc.) They amazingly well written and clean (but not hokey). Her other books are also worth looking into if your a fan of fantasy/sci-fi.

Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. It is not a fantasy oriented book. It deals with questions of peoples' authenticity as seen thru the eyes of the narrator, Holden Caulfied, who is a teenaged boy who has a lot on his mind. It is a classic and it is taught at the grade level you are at, and usually revisited in college. It is not an escapist book, nor would I call it a "young girl's" book. But it is a definite contrast from the books recommended before my answer and one you should consider...if not now, at some time before you leave high school.

Try the classics. At 15 I loved - and still love - Wuthering Heights. I also loved A Room With a View.

"Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer and it's sequel "New Moon". The 3rd book is coming out this August.

It's a vampire love story. A 17 (18 in New Moon) clumsy ordinary girl slowly falls for a vampire who wants her blood. Sounds cliche but it's not.
