that what we are told as a child has a deep impact on what we become? My dad used to say, "Children should be seen and not heard". I grew up to be a pretty quiet fella. What do you think?

Only to some extent ! My parents were not perfect by any
means, even though I still love them dearly !
But, I grew up with 5 children in our family, an alcoholic dad,
and a very submissive mother. It was not an ideal life growing up for me. Today, my hubby and I have 2 children,
that we are very open with, and vice-versa, there has never
been a need for harsh discipline for my 2 !
I make sure that my girls will have loving memories of our
family time. My 10 yr old leaves us a message every morning pinned to the fridge, telling us she loves us and to have a great day ! Also, we tell our girls how much we love them everyday, this was something that my parents rarely told
us, I missed that alot !
Hugs and God Bless !
Fran

Absolutely! Sadly, my dad was a pretty tough ol' guy and his favorite word for me was stupid! My self-esteem was very low for most of my years and I didn't go to college until I was in my late thirties because I was afraid of failing! It is absolutely amazing how far criticism or praise can go! As for me, I will always choose praise! Have a great day! Annie

Definitely. We believed everything our parents said because they were our whole worlds. We didn't even know the concept that words said could be false at that time.
