i don't think they have anything against mothers. a lot of the original fairy tales were written by the grimms. their stories were haunting and sad and much darker than disney actually portrays them. knowing that, you might ask whether the grimms had something against mothers. also, they tried to scare or instill fear in children, what is the one thing that probably scares kids most? to be without their mother to take care of them.

I don't honestly know, it's just plain mean, why can't the dad die? Or better yet- no one at all!
Maybe Walt Disney was on a roll after killing off Bambi's mum- that was one of their first times seriously dealing with death.
I think a dying mother gives the bigger sense of tragedy. A mother is a main provider of everything in a child's life. It shows how much we all love our mum's and take advantage of them.

it will be that really some the most customary early Disney video clips are in accordance with fairy thoughts that were first orally instructed and then written down in a time at the same time as it replaced into way extra person-pleasant for moms to die youthful, oftentimes in childbirth. Then the later Disney video clips, at the same time as they strive against to do some thing new besides, are modeled on that early storyline.

Sounds like it, but I think that in non-Disney and Disney written material, sympathy gets people in to a movie sooner, because they start out trying to see if the child is going to be okay....if nothing else, it sure gets their attention.

There seems to be something very devastating about the loss of one's mother

We'll know a bit more with the release of Little Mermaid III, when we see Ariel's mother (voiced by Sally field)

Because they are the center of a child's universe, a father is dispensable, and without guidance from a mother a moral battle within yourself occurs, to be good or bad.

Because losing your mother can be one of the most frightening thoughts for a child, and frankly one that they can identify with. It's not that they want to scare kids, it's just that they want them to identify with the characters.
And hey, it's not all bad. Clearly Dumbo was reunited with his mother. So they've got that going for them.

I'm not completely sure, but doesn't Disney get most of their stories from old storybooks? It seems to me that most of them portrayed daughters and fathers, princesses and Kings, princesses and princes. Hey, what about the Fairy God Mother? But I do see what you mean...curious!

No, it's a plot device that makes the viewers identify with their characters. Everyone has a mom and everyone can relate to mothers, and empathize with someone losing their mom.
