Make sure that you have a USB connection and transfer using Active sync. MP3 is the most common format for Pod casts and music and windows media handles it.
you also might want to consider searching the stores for Resco media player. It only does MP3 but is great for controlling what you want to hear with some.
Pocket TV for Mpeg, but windows media handles most TV type media and Streaming media from news casts. Streaming requires a network connection and a bit of time. (I got scared when a stream started about two min after I was off the subject.)
