The white smoke is actually steam. The most common cause is a blown head gasket. Check the oil. It will eventually turn into a milky substance after a while.

First check your oil level..... on some cars if it is too high you will get heavy smoke out the tail pipe. If the oil level is fine then it is the valve seals worn out.

Also make sure what smoke is coming out, if it is cold out and you first start the car it is normal for white steam to come out the car, when it is warmed up it goes away. This is normal, dont worry about it.

If the smoke is heavy and blue/white and it smoking all the time, then you are burning oil.

Check your oil and make sure it isn't foamy or milky colored. Most auto when you first start them a whitish color comes out due to rich fuel mixture and or because the heat of the engine is causing a type of condensation from the cooler metal of the exhaust pipe/muffler.

Sounds like classic symptom of a blown head gasket.

It could mean you only drove it 1/2 mile last time and your exhaust system is full of water.

could be a LOT of things. could be rings, seals, head gaskets, i can't list all of them. how many miles does it have on it? if it has high mileage it could very well need to be overhauled.
