What the theme is that they are primarily suggesting is that in this place, with these people there is always a new beginning, a new day as it were.

Abel is taken from one adventure or challenge to the next, from his Native American roots to the modern world, and at each step of the way, it's a new beginning. It's very much a metaphoric or symbolic representation of Abel's and Momaday's Native American heritage.
