Check the level of the rough opening to see if the top or bottom needs to be shimmed out to make the door frame level. Check the threshold with a level to see if the left or right side of the door needs to go up or down to be level. Shim the bottom first so the threshold is level. On the hinge side fasten whichever doesn't need to be shimmed (top or bottom) then work your way to the middle and shim as needed and then to the other end shimming where needed to make the door frame level and plumb. The latch side will be level now so then you can plumb the latch side and shim whatever you need to so the space between the door and the frame is consistent from top to bottom.

The tool you gotta have for this is a carpenter's square.

Make sure the doorway is framed *exactly* square. Stand the doorframe up in the opening, and start nailing the top up and in. Work your way down both sides, checking the square often.

If you need them, it's good to have some shims ready to fill in - they'll be covered when you put up the drywall.

Make sure your rough opening is the right size and square. (Level on all sides) And make sure the frame and door aren't too tall,or you'll have to cut it to fit. If everything is o.k., then just nail in place, and put shims in where (IF) they are needed. Keep your level handy at all times!! It helps to have somebody hold it up for you, or you can wedge something under the frame to get it off the floor. Pretty easy to do:) Then just put your trim around it, install your doorknob, and you're finished!
Good Luck!

Hire a handyman to do it for you. Installing a door yourself and getting it plumb and level can be a most frustrating experience (I know from personal experience!)
