Her backup dancers are based on the Harajuku girls, which refers to Japanese girls (usually teens and early twenties) who dress in outlandish, mismatched clothing with wigs and other accessories. They literally parade around Tokyo and other cities, generally on the weekends.
But they don't call themselves Harajuku girls - in fact, that's just the name Gwen gave them because she first encountered them and their culture in the Harajuku region.
I guess Gwen, who's always been unique herself, just gravitates towards different fashions and trends. I've heard her say in intereviews that she loves touring in Japan!
I wouldn't really call them creepy. I could think of tons of things more creepy than them!

She is an asianophile. It is a condition when white trash people want slanted eyes and pale skin to appear more asian and ethnic.
Although Bjork is not asian, bjork looks asian and Gwen always wanted to be like Bjork even when she was in No Doubt.
People thought Gwen was all punk and original, but she was always copying Bjork.
Gwen has never been original and fans are too dumb and love to worship second rate artists.

yeah I no what are they called harashuka girls .. she even has dolls with her and the girls selling .. its kind of strange but pop stars do stuff to create weird things
