Let's not forget that Norv Turner was the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys during their back to back Super Bowl wins in 1992 and 1993! Let's also not forget that he was the offensive coordinator for San Diego in 2001 and created the offense that the Chargers still use today. Turner is VERY non-confrontational, and with a hands on owner and manager like Dean Spanos and AJ Smith, he fits the profile of who they were looking for: Somebody to step in, do as he's told, and not make too many changes to what is already a championship caliber team.
Personally I wasn't upset to see Shottenheimer go, I just wish they would have done it before Cam Cameron left to coach Miami. Of course I heard rumors of Jimmy Johnson coming out of retirement to coach a San Diego team that he didn't have to create, but actually COACH! Wishful thinking unfortunately. The good news is that even a monkey can coach the Chargers to a championship in 2007/2008! So we'll see if Norv Turner can handle it. Personally, I think we'll do just fine no matter who the coach is.

"He is a terrific offensive coordinator"
Have you ever stopped and actually looked at his rankings? These are the teams that Turner has either been the HC or OC for since 1994.
1994 Redskins - 13th
1995 Redskins - 18th
1996 Redskins - 8th
1997 Redskins - 15th
1998 Redskins - 17th
1999 Redskins - 2nd
2000 Redskins - 24th
2001 Chargers - 15th
2002 Dolphins - 15th
2003 Dolphins - 24th
2004 Raiders - 18th
2005 Raiders - 23rd
2006 49ers - 26th
Only twice in the top 12 in 13 years? How could this man possibly be a "terrific" offensive coordinator?

Yeah and when he screws the Chargers up this season he will be fired again. But after this year he will NEVER get another one because the Chargers are hands down the most talented team in the NFL. You have to be super stupid to not win with that team and he wont. I mean we all saw what happened the year after he took Gruden's team to the superbowl.

Neepo13: Just to let you know, it was Callahan that took Gruden's team to the superbowl not Turner. Turner is a bad coach who is scared to throw the ball down field and shows no emotion. With that said, he still would have a hard time failing with SD's roster.

Same way Wade Phillips got a job again. Although I think Turner is really just Jerry Jones puppet coach. He is put on the Sidelines because he will do what Jones tells him to do.

Norv isn't a bad guy.. and you can't blame him for the disaster in Oakland. He really needs strong-handed coordinators to do his best work, but he's a smart guy.. that has worked for at least couple of terrible owners.

Figures he must have had naked pictures of SD owner with a bunch of hookers in Vegas or something.....was the only thing that made sense when the Chargers hired him.

I'd rather disband a team than hire Norv.

I think it has something to do with the front office in San Diego. Marty Schottenheimer, although he did okay, never should have been hired.
