MD is awarded upon successfully completion of Medical school , So when you get your MD you don't need to get Doctorate degree. Doctorate degree is awarded to a person that must have gotten a Master degree in any discipline and decided to further the discipline for Doctorate degree.

A Doctorate degree is a level of education award.

You'd get an Associate degree, then a Bachelor, then a Masters degree, then a Doctorate.

An MD is a medical doctor, and that degree is awarded for successful completion of medical school.
