I'm looking for an administrative/office position, and plan on posting on hotjobs, monster, using NYC craigslist, and other mediums. Would it be a beneficial or irrelevant to include being an RA on my resume? Thank you for your help.

Experience is experience, and should be listed if sucessfully executed. If nothing else, it shows your abilty to resolve interpersonal conflict, which is always a key to solid career positions. Make that a short bullet on your resume and wait for the questions, so that you can brag in detail on that point.

I think your RA experience is crucial if you are very early in your career aspirations...I.E., just graduated from college or are still just a year or two out of college. RA experience shows the ability to communicate, manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and sudden, unexpected situations that come up. It demonstrates that somebody trusted you to be an RA and that you were willing to work and go to school at the same time.

If, however, you are further along in your career, i.e., you have graduated and been in the workforce for several years, I would be more inclined to list the job but only with a 1-2 sentence explanation because, by this time, your most recent jobs will be more relevant.

Good luck!

Unless you have several other jobs to list that show that level of responsibility, I'd show it - can't hurt. If you're just getting out of school and don't have other jobs to list other than maybe fast food or retail, definitely list it.

Good luck in finding a good job. And don't just post your resume - actively look for a job (want ads, info from friends, school placement office) - while people do get jobs by posting resumes on boards, most of the time you have to actively look for them.

Any job you've done that will earn you good references when asked should be included in your resume.
