In most places these days it is illegal for anyone to pick up an arrowhead. You are supposed to leave it where it is.

It really depends. You won't find too many in a housing addition because the ground has been landscaped. Just to walk in a park or wooded area may not be the best place. Best places are fields by water. Creeks work also.

I live in the midwest, Kansas more specifically. I have friends who go out all the time, mostly in spring before grass starts to grow, and look for artifacts. They have some incredible finds. They always have the land owners permission to look, in writing. Otherwise, you will be trespassing onto private property.

There are some laws about this and you must check your area. Many states allow a person to pick up an exposed Indian artifact but you can not dig for it.

Happy hunting...

On a battlefield?

The ancient people where I live used to worship rivers (among other things) and they threw weapons into the river as a gift to the river god. Remains have been found in rivers.

Unfortunately they tend to rust.

Stone age arrow heads can be found near the site of "manufacture" - near the source of the stone they are made of. this is often flint in the part of the country I live in.

Good flint tools were exported quite a long way.
