My family and I all made our own purses last night and thought velcro would be the best way to close the bags. The rest of my family's is made out of plain thick canvas material and mine is made out of woven rattan material. I'm running into problems attaching the velcro to the rattan and am not sure how to on he canvas. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance

For the Rattan... I'd put a piece of canvas inside and then sew thru velcro thru the rattan.

Canvas, just sew it on: machine or by hand.

I did alot of velcro work in the Navy on my flight suits and jacket... I don't think the "fabric glue" suggested would hold up to the pressures of opening and closing.

You're welcome in retrograde... and Good Luck !

You will be disappointed with adhesive velcro. It gives up after a while. For the canvas, sew it on, but for rattan, why not a nice knotted cord?

try some fabric glue. If it doesn't work on the back of the adhesive on the velcro then attach a piece of fabric to the back ofthe velcro and then glue the fabric (attached to velcro) onto the bag. also you could try sewing the fabric with velcro glued to it on the bag. or you could instead get a button and cut a small hole in the bag and sew a button on the bag.

My suggestion would be to pin the velcro into place and to sew by machine, unless it is hard to reach, in which case sew by hand around the edges of the velcro then in an "X" from corner to corner. this makes it durable, stays in place, and does not detract from the outside of the purse.
