I know what the reason is....The Democratic party has traditionally been more liberal in it's views & policies, from moderate to left-wing radical. The Left strongly supports Gay marriage, abortion, legalized pot, open borders, no judgements or accountability on human behavior, no right & wrong & a strong desire to literally change the entire Judeo-Christian Philosophy of the Constitution on which our country was founded! In other words, a Socialistic society with no morality, no good or evil and no God!! The inmates can run the asylum....with the Government running the inmates!!

Barney Frank. The homosexual congressman from Massachusetts.
Also, all the family oriented conservative Democrats in the Democratic Party fled to the Republican Party in the late 70s during the Carter Administration. This left behind a vast majority of liberal Democrats.
Today the Democratic Party is almost totally devoid of the old New Deal conservative Democrats, and today's Democratic Party has become a bastion of left-wing whacko special interest groups like the environmentalists and homosexual rights.
Consider all the 'Kennedy Democrats' we have here in Massachusetts (blacks, leftist Jews, homosexuals, and white liberals), these are the guys who keep Senator Kennedy in office.

Well, there are the Log Cabin Republicans, but you are correct for the most part. It's not just San Francisco, it's everywhere. Because the bulk of opposition to their civil rights comes from the Republican Party. It's really that simple. Most evangelicals, the ones who love to tell lies about homosexuals and their "agenda" are largely Republican. George Bush pushed the failed Marriage Amendment not just once, but twice to boost his image with the fundies. It's just common sense. A gay friend of mine told me that being a gay Republican made as much sense as being a Jew for Jesus in her opinion. It made me laugh if nothing else. Look at desegregation. A large part of the opposition came from Southerners who were then Democrats, but changed to the Republican Party after the Democrats didn't support their bid to remain segregated. The same people who marched with racist slurs right next to Bible verse on their placards are the same ones who are so opposed to gay marriage, and they and their families have remained Republicans since that era. Just one example, but I think it's a good one.
EDIT: Seth, your memory is faulty. Hillary Clinton does not support gay marriage, she supports civil unions. BIG difference.

I don't think that homosexuals gravitate towards the democratic party unless they are "out" and very comfortable with their homosexuality, in fact many homosexuals are conservative, they just seem to be outed by other than honest practices. (see recent scandals involving evangelical icons/congressmen)
but the reason they tend to lean democratically is because of many of the rights that the party fights for on their behalf, such as civil unions, tax reliefs, spousal benefits (healthcare) etc. And they do not recieve the negative stigmas that many "religious right" wingers tend to give.

I'm sure that many, but not all, gay people feel that the Democrats are supporters of equal rights.
Is this a surprise when so many hypocritical conservative politicians come out bashing gay people?

I suppose you never heard of Log Cabin Republicans?
Its difficult for me to believe that voting for a group that thinks you are going to Hell and you need to be 'cured' or cut off from human contact is in a persons best interest, but the Log Cabin Republicans have decided to overlook their damnation by the rest of the party and still vote Republican.
To each his own.
