Lots of great eats in San Francisco. One that you can't miss for lunch or dinner is House of Nanking. I've been there a few times and each time, the chef told us that he would decide for us (kinda like "omakase"). We agreed. He came up with wonderful dishes. The service is so-so, prices are reasonable, casual ambience and the food is KILLER!

Thanh Long--- on Judah Street in the Sunset District-- A cool Vietnamese/French restaurant. Their roast crab and garlic noodles are excellent. Salmon Carpaccio is also one of my favorites. Valet or street parking is not too bad.

Crustaceans--- at the corner of California and Polk serves pretty much the same menu as the restaurant above. The ambience is a little more classy. They used to require a collared shirt, no blue jeans, and cellphone off. Not sure about now. Street parking is a little tougher. Parking garage 1/2 blk up on California.

House of Prime Rib---on Vanness. (if you love prime rib cuz that's all they serve other than fish of the day, which pretty much no one orders) All cuts come with their famous house salad (yum!), potatoes, yorkshire pudding, and creamed spinich. Lots of food!! Again, street parking is tough. Valet available.

Should make reservations for these restaurants (even on weekdays) Enjoy!

I love the cioppino at the Tadich Grill (240 California), the fried smelt at Kokkari (200 Jackson) and the shaking beef at The Slanted Door (the Ferry Bldg). Since this is San Francisco I could keep listing great food and restaurants, like pizza at A16 and souffles at Cafe Jacqueline.

I love to dine out so when I visit my sister in SF I always go to the following...

Tapas - Iluna Basque
www.ilunabasque.com

Hawaiian - I know that sound funny, but this place is so good.
Hukilau
www.dahukilau.com/

Dim Sum - Most dim sum places in SF surprisingly is not in China Town. I'm not sure what this neighborhood is called but I love this dim sum restaurant.
Ton Kiang

Italian - I absolutely love this restaurant. It's really for the garlic lover however. If you are not a fan of garlic, this isn't the place for you, Also, its in North Beach so after dinner there are many bars around. The only thing is that you either need a really good mouthwash, gum, etc or you aren't out to pick up anyone.

Bon Appetite

It kind of depends on my mood. But all are moderately priced by SF standards:
Seafood-Tadich Grill at 240 California.
Mexican-Don Ramons 11th at Folsom
Chinese-Henry's Hunan on Natoma between New Montgomery and 2nd street, or Tai Chi on Polk at Broadway.
Best overall experience is Clement Street Bar And Grill on Clement at 8th. Something for everyone, good food and the some of the best people on staff in the city. They have been in business over 20 years, must being doing something right.

Roy's on Mission street. They serve "Euro-Asian" cuisine. Chef Roy Yamaguchi has opened them all over the world. They restaurant is very lively and busy. They have a wood-burning pizza oven and an open kitchen. Some of the best items on the menu: Szechwan Baby Back Ribs, Potstickers with a lobster-miso butter sauce, Spring Rolls with a chili-plum sauce. ... and the melting hot chocolate cake for dessert. You won't be dissapointed!

Favorite for overall menu is Canteen. They share a door with the Commodore Hotel on Sutter. It may just be a little nook, but they have a fine taste in food. Their menu is pretty organic and gourmet - a combination every good restaurant needs.

BETELNUT in Cow Hollow. You can order items on small "plates" or large "plates" to share also. This way you get to try a lot of different items.

Also, try the Scorpion Bowl drink. It's huge and serves 4 people.
They put little floating animals and mermaids in it with long straws.

We also always visit Fisherman's Wharf, my son loves the clam chowder from the vendors in the bread bowls.

I love Scala's Bistro at 432 Powell Street in Union Square. My favorite dish is the crab risotto. The restaurant is small, but the service is friendly and fast. The noise level is acceptable and you don't feel rushed. The booths are comfortable and the wine list is extensive from pricey to very reasonable.

Enjoy your visit!
