My son is 6 months old and my doctor gave me motrin but I am not 100% sure I can drink this while breastfeeding. Other doctors have told me only tylenol.

Motrin is fine to take.

Basically it's Ibuprofen, which is AAP approved.

Hale lists it as a "L1" in "Medications & Mother's Milk" which is the safest rating available.

Miss Lolly- I agree with you, this is what I've been educated on as well. I drink wine or beer like once every couple weeks and don't breastfeed until The alcohol circulates out. To the person who is so shocked about this- many midwives recommend wine in the last few weeks of pregnancy. One dr says yes, another will say no. I don't know anyone who's baby has been hospitalized or damaged in any way from drinking while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding while drunk is a different story.

momma2mingbu is right and gave you a great website to look at. I just wanted to add that it is very common to encounter doctors who tell you not to take anything at all (except Tylenol) when breastfeeding because they simply haven't researched all the medications and would rather be safe and tell you not to take anything than wrong if they just haven't done their research. You can find just about any medication on the kellymom website that momma2mingbu gave you -- it's a very reliable website and most of the information there comes from the leading handbook for nursing mothers -- "Medications and Mother's Milk" by Dr. Thomas Hale. Good luck!

Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) and paracetamol (Tylenol) have the best documentation on safety during breastfeeding.

It is safe to take pain relievers such as Tylenol or Advil when you have a headache or a fever.

I took Motrin for my c section while nursing and the doctors said it was fine, but if you have an alternative I wouldn't take it.

I have only used Extra Strength Tylenol. If your not sure you can ask your doctor again or ask another doctor.
