I have a traditional Chinese dress with the collar, cap sleeves, and slits up to my thighs. It's red and has dragons and phoenixes embroidered on it in gold. It's a little loose, so I'm getting it altered. The chest area and shoulders are really loose, but it fits my butt (b/c I have a round butt), and the person said it would be really hard to alter the upper body to fit me. What should I do?
Would you wear a Chinese dress or prom, and guys, would you want your date to wear a Chinese dress?

Sounds very tasteful and stylish. As a Brit, I really don't get the whole 'prom dress' thing. Most prom dresses that are sold on the specialist sites are ugly!
I would much rather wear a stylish dress than a traditional prom dress that is not so stylish. I am sure your date would be honoured to have the best dressed date at the prom!

Well are you the kind of person who cares what other think?
Then NO you should deff stick to a traditional dress...
However, if you like originality and thats how you usually approach life... (with originality that is) then you should deff go for the Chinese prom dress disregarding the looks you might or might NOT get!

Whats wrong with wearing what you want to wear for prom? The way you described it, your dress sounds beautiful. Just get it fitted and I'm sure you'll look great.

OF COURSE!! Your prom is supposed to be special, so you should wear what you want to wear!! Don't let other people who are gossip queens or Ms. populars tell you who you are or what you wear! You are you so wear what you want and have a great time!! And if guys only care about what you wear.. are they gay???
P.S. anything can be altered! trust me i would know, my mom always alters my clothes and shes an amateur! But they still look great so a professional would do an awesome job!!

It's whatever you want. If you want to where it to the prom, i say go for it. There aren't any rules that prom dress have to be long and poofy. And why look like everyone else. If you want to wear it, i say go ahead. Have fun at your prom.

I think it would be ok. But not the best choice to a prom. I think it depends on the theme of the prom.

I don't think you should wear a chinese dress to your prom. It's more for like chinese new year.
