They would if all of the candidates held a singing competition where the voters could text their votes.

I vote but I live in a red state and I voted blue. Some areas of my state actually went blue in the last election. In a presidential election, my vote is meaningless. I think that is why many don't vote in them. They know the electoral college will use the electoral votes as they see fit. That is a mistaken concept because your vote does still count for other offices within the state. When I hear people complaining about the government, that is the first thing I say. Did you vote?

In Iraq, these people were under the assumption that each vote would be counted. I wonder how much information they were given about the candidates. Did they just vote based on their religious sect?

I've voted every major election for over 40 years now and I'm getting to the point where maybe I won't vote anymore. Some of the votes have been for the lesser of two evils or a vote against something that I felt was detrimental to issues that affected me at the time. Also, the two party system is just a struggle for power. Does being a Republican mean that you have to support every Republican platform? Can't you be Pro Choice and anti gay marriage, or for equal rights but against Illegal immigration?
Can you be a Democrat and believe that abortion should be against the law under any circumstance yet still feel firm in your own convictions? Candidates for public office will promise anything or support an issue just to keep their party in control and expect reciprocating support from someone else who is in direct conflict with their own views. Then there's the whole issue of voting fraud. We have vote by mail in my state and there's always allegations of pets, deceased persons and Illegal aliens getting enough votes to make a difference in an election. Then after a vote by the people gets through, those in power do whatever they want anyway in direct conflict with the vote that was passed.
I don't know the answer, but both sides make you compromise your position in life for their power when you're closer to the middle of the road and that's where the majority of us are found.

Because we’ve become lazy in this nation, people love to complain about how things are going or not going. But when it comes down to voting on how they believe or making a change to the system through casting their vote, they stay home. My feeling is that you don’t have a right to complain about the system if your not going to be part of it.

One reason is complacency. Many Americans really do not care enough to vote. There are others who cannot make up their minds and some are dissatisfied with the choices they have. One thing I have discovered is that the people that talk the most about politics, in my circle, are the same people that do not vote.

I vote every election......I still can't figure out why those that are able to don't. I must say in a sick way I am amused when they say "there was no one to vote for".

I personally don't like to vote because I feel like it's not going to make a difference. I only do it because it feels like a requirement of an American.

My art teacher told me that he doesn't vote anymore because who he votes for never wins.

people are getting lethargic about voting because the result of their vote is of no consequence.

used to be that when we went to vote, we were voting for a candidate of the people, for the people, and by the people. these days you pretty well vote in another dictator and cronies.
