Not only cancer, but other "diseases" that didn't even EXIST 50 years ago. RLS, acid reflux, autism, just to name a few.
Mainly, mercury in our vaccines, and the dramatic increase in mandatory vaccines on the schedule. Also, of course, chemicals in our food - even food that most people don't think of as processed, necessarily. Homogenized milk - often boasted as a great source of calcium (when in fact, phosphorates in the milk prevent us from absorbing that calcium.)
Fluoridation. Fluoride is industrial waste. It's been shown to case severe bone destruction in both humans, and farm animals, as well as several other dysfunctions.
Radiation - from cell phones, microwaves, and other electrical fields we are exposed to daily.
Additives to our cleaners, shampoos, soaps, and deodorants. Aluminum, propylene glycol, SODIUM LAUREL/TH SULFATE - A KNOWN CARCINOGEN. IT IS IN ALMOST EVERY SOAP YOU USE, LOOK FOR YOURSELVES! Your toothpaste, even. It's used in industrial cleaners, and we are covering ourselves in it.
Untested-unproven-unsafe DRUGS. Why is it that suddenly the TV is flooded with ADs for prescription drugs? Why is there such a market for disease, only for them to be recalled in the next year or two for causing the illness or death of hundreds of people? Shame shame on the FDA. Seems to me that we have been trusting the wrong people for entirely too long. Okay, that's probably not the end of my list, but I'll stop now :)

I believe that it is a little of everything that everyone else has mentioned.
After having a routine blood test done a few years back and finding out that my overall cholesterol was high, and triglycerides and that I was in the 22 percentile for heart related diseases and/or complications, I changed my diet.
I started eating more of a vegetarian diet and I try to buy everything organic. Since then all of my levels are great, except that I have low uric acid (due to not eating red meat). My doc said that it was fine and that if I wanted to raise it to eat a good steak once a week. LOL
My hubby argues with me about the organic stuff but he eats it anyway, so do my kids. I even buy cage free eggs, they cost a little more but the hens aren't given steroids and the grain they eat hasn't been treated with pesticides.
They come up with something new everyday that causes cancer or could , so ... who knows. I just try to do what I think is best for the health of me & my family. So far, the illnesses in the household has dramatically reduced, even the simple cold & flu.
Well, I am rambling again ... best wishes,
Elvn

I agree with those that mentioned the pesticides, vaccines, radiation and chemicals in our household products. Have you ever thought about GMO (genetically modified) foods as another one? All the drugs that the doctors keep on prescribing despite sometimes serious side effects? I don't know what other people's experiences are but I try to buy organic food and use natural cleaning products and homeopathic remedies or herbs for illnesses and people think I am CRAZY! What happened years ago before all of these foods that were sprayed and modified or synthetic drugs were invented?
Sorry about the venting :)

1) People are living longer, many other major diseases are now more curable than some cancers.
2) Better statistics
3) greater environmental hazards
4) Increased smoking until recently
5) Increased obesity may predispose to colon and breast cancer
6) Your ideas of processed foods and microwave ovens are more difficult to prove. You may be right, but the above factors are more prevalent.

50 years ago there were only a few vaccines and now we start out giving our children 20 or so. 50 years ago there wasn't homoginized milk. How about the Aluminum sulfate in chicken nuggets or all the other chemicals put into foods.
Pestisides, makeup(phenoxyethanol is alos known as antifreeze), sun block, and just about everyother thing out there today that isn't organic or natural.

I developed rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 42. My older sister & mother have it & they also have Lupus - all autoimmune diseases. Both parents & 1 sibling had cancers. I think it has to do with chemicals in processed foods, factory polluted air, hormones injected into the chickens & cows we eat, & chemicals spayed on the vegetables & fruits we eat.

I say processed foods, the chemicals we breathe; including the poor air quality outside. Also, the fear of germs. We have pills for everyting, over use hand-sanitizer and over-vaccinate kids. Why can't they get the flu and the chicken pox? I have had both, and I'm still alive.

I think it's diet/processed food/pollution on all levels including the mental, emotional and spiritual. Everything is connected, and connects everything...the nutrient-poor, toxically-loaded, over-priced unnatural food we eat ( hydrogenated fats, 'splenda', GM etc,), actually predisposes us to ill-health and mental fuzziness (junk food is addictive) so we carry on polluting our own bodies and our planet at the same time, and allow all sorts of insanity to continue, insert your own examples...
We're out of balance, we're not in touch with Nature anymore, and that actually matters a lot more than people realise!
people need to realise their power again: we know what choices lead to health and happiness, why don't we make them, and make them more often? Get more informed about what food producers and manufacturers are putting in our bodies, also what pollutants are in the atmosphere and what's put them there (cars and wars) ...We really only have the one place to live and the right food choices, and consumption choices, are usually better choices for the long-term sustainability of our planet and our species anyway, as well as ourselves as individuals...we just have to act as if our own indiviudual actions can make a difference (and they do...) (and so it is...)

My theory on the increase in most everything from childhood diseases to cancer is we now have the technology to find these things early where we didnt have the ability to before. This has skewed the amounts that have been there all along.

The truth is that 50 years ago they often didn't know for sure what was wrong with people. My grandfather had a stroke about 50 years ago and it wasn't actually diagnosed until the 1970s. Testing has improved alot.
