Because the word "advanced" has no biological meaning.

It is a word that humans like to apply to themselves to make themselves fell like they're "all that."

But once you realize that your definition of "advanced" is "most like humans in achievement" ... then you've answered your own question. Since humans are land-dwellers, then other "human-like" creatures would also be land-dwellers.

That's what makes them more advanced. They had the sense to get out of the water. It just wreaked havoc on the hair and skin.

I think there is evidence that humans used to be aquatic in our ancestory but I havn't got an official link.
Who knows why we came onto land? Maybe we just learnt how to stand and walk, maybe it was more interesting???

some would argue that dolphins are the most advanced species.
