Getting here at the very least would imply they speak the languages of science and engineering. More than likely they would also have animal life on their home planet to have risen to the dominant form as they did. In the process of growing up though, they may not have lost the "Dr. Doolittle" ability to talk with the animals and wouldn't it be poetic justice if Darwin the Dolphin or Charlie the Tuna were appointed the intergalactic ambassador?

To be able to get here they'd probably have to have some form of communication comparable to language, in order to cooperate sufficiently to develop that level of technology -- though what form it would be in is anyone's guess.
There's no reason to assume it's spoken.
It wouldn't an Earth language of any sort (human or animal), as it would have arisen on their world.
I would imagine that some forms of communication (body language, I guess) would be the same -- such as "drawing oneself up to look bigger" as a way of expressing anger and a desire to dominate.
That would be the sort of thing that would be most likely universal to all living things, wherever they're from.
I can't help thinking that some form of pointing would also be sort of universal-ish, at least among critters capable of abstract reasoning.
Interesting thought experiment.

They would probably have a language as complex or even more so than humans. Animal's languages are for the most part quite simple, and aliens would need a language that could explain the technology of space travel.

They would speak whatever language they speak on their planet. If you are a "Trekkie", you know about the "Universal Translators" they use to communicate with new species (No, not all planets speak English). You would also remember the movie where Spock talks to a humpback whale because an alien will only talk to a humpback whale.

When I came to earth communication was universal and I was and am still able to communicate with almost all beings but I use the language of respect and love. And if you ever hope to travel into the inner space of eternal outwardness you too will need to speak the same language.

I thought that in the movie "Contact" based on Carl Sagin, that mathematics would be the most likely first form of communication. It is the most basic and universal concept in the universe. If the laws of physics are the same everywhere in the universe then this is the most basic form of truth and understanding that can be conveyed by any form of intelligence to any other. The concepts of 1,2,3 are even understood by a child.

When you consider some of the 'clowns' out there that regard themselves as important to the human race, the aliens would probably get a more intelligent, and considered response from addressing a gecko!

They would say..."Take me to your leader"
The they'd probably speak English (assuming they land on a country who's languahe is English) as they would be advanced enough to decode complex data. Or maybe like the film "Independence day" where they used a human to do their speaking using their powers.

in the event that they have any experience they could bypass us and seek advice from the animals. i'm specific they had learn a heck of plenty from them like unconditional love and loyalty and bypass each and every of the mendacity, greed, political bull pucky, racism, 2 confronted-ness, and so on. that we could teach them - if we even enable them to have a threat to talk previously we the two killed them or captured them and positioned them away for scientific learn.

they would speak their own language, and ask what were doing here. And it will be in about 20 years.
