He did it because he thought someone would care; the song was just another way to cover-up the real meaning behind Jimmy cracked corn; which was that Jimmy was a crack head and one night couldn't find any drugs, so he went home and chopped up some corn and smoked it; and no I don't care.

He liked the sound of cracking corn. There is a song from Africa called "Silang Mabele" which literally means 'crushing corn'. It's by Vusi Mahlasela and can be found on the soundtrack to the movie "Tsotsi" (as well as on his albums). It is a folk tune that's been around Africa for decades, if not centuries. The women and children would sing it while they crushed the corn to sell or use as meals. It's one of my all-time favorite songs in the world.

I guess Jimmy was African, and a toiling worker. The era in which "Jimmy cracked corn" was written was a highly racist and intolerant era (even more than today's). This is why nobody cared. That's how they treated the Africans then. As for whether or not I care, I do. I care about young Jimmy, crackin' his corn for noone but himself and his ears.

Of course, this is all completely fabricated, at least in regard to Jimmy, but I think it fits nicely.

the words are "Jimmy cracks corn and I dont care, my master's gone away" key word is "I" not we or no one.

the song was written in the 1840's by the same man who wrote "Dixie".

it was written in Virginia, during slavery times.

cracking corn is a farm job. done at a mill with waterwheel and stream. the corn is an animal feed. the corn kernels have to be cracked into pieces or they will pass through the animal intact and the nutrients will not be absorbed by the animal.

evidently, Jimmy was working at the mill, cracking the corn. the singer of the song, "I", was a slave , left at the mill to help Jimmy work. the singer, didnt help, he didnt care, his master was not there to make him do it. the singer was taking the day off.

I assume cracking corn is a bad thing since it happends when the master is gone away, and groing up on a farm, I would have to say it is a sloppy job removing the kernals from the cob

It is supposed to teach young children to mind their own business, but to be careful. Even if everyone SAYS they don't care, there is still someone always watching.

Hell, I want that kid to stop cracking his corn and do his homework!

because the song was from slavery era music, the wide assumption by people at the time was that he cracked the corn at the behest of his master and was too stupid to care as long as he didn't get the whip.

the master didn't care what happened as long as he "didn't get dry" which implies that he was a drunk in addition to trafficking in human lives.

the blue tail fly that irritated his horse (or means of conveyance) was akin to the irritants of abolitionists who wanted to somehow vex and/or punish the master and eventually he was killed in a riding accident.

naturally, their was happiness on slave row when the master died and then the "no one cared" was directed to the now dead master.
