Find the slope of a line containing the points (-4,7) & (3,-6)
*The slope formula is....
m = [second y - first y]/[second x - first x]
First: place the set of points in the formula.
m = [- 6 - 7]/[3 - (- 4)]
m = [-13]/[3+4]
m = -13/7

The slope (or gradient) of a line can be defined as the change in y divided by the change in x.
With the points you give this would be:
(7--6)/(-4-3)=13/-7=-1.86 (to 2 decimal places)
Be careful with all those negative signs - I think I got it right!

The Slope Formula is:
M = y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
So substitite (y2 = -6, y1 = 7, x2 = 3, x1 = -4)
M = (-6 - 7) / (3 - -4)
M = -13 / 7
M = approximately - 1.86 or - 1 6/7

The slope of a line is equal to the change in y / change in x:
so in this case... we have (y2-y1)/(x2-x1):
(-6-7)/(3-(-4)) = -13/7 = -13/7

to find gradient, it's:
(Y1-Y2)/(X1-X2)
for your question:
X1=-4, Y1=7
X2=3, Y2=-6
so using the formula:
[7-(-6)]/[(-4)-3]
13/(-7)
-1.857 (approx to 4 sig. fig)
so the slope of the line containing the two points is -1.857.
hope that helps!

-13 over 7 (change in y over change in x)
that means 13 down and 7 to the right or 13 up and 7 to the left
