The physical cause of a hangover are dehydration and low blood sugar, alcohol causes both these things. When dehydrated the brain shrinks and this causes the headache and low blood sugar causes weakness and nausea.
So the best things to do are drink plenty of water to re hydrate, also some before bed is great, and a good feed on carbs in the morning if you can stomach it, chcolate and sugary food will give you a short term raise in sugar but carbs are the best for long term, so banans, bread etc

Hi Lauri88, ginger tea, chicken soup, an egg-based breakfast and tomato juice ( in the guise of a Bloody Mary) are all said to help in curing a hangover. It is likely that including some lightl protein sources and complex carbohydrates are going to help with topping your B vitamins - try a poached egg on whole grain bread with spinach or a fruit smoothie with yoghurt and oatmeal.

Fructose may be important in assisting a hangover cure. This is the sugar found in fruit and fruit products. Take your pick from bananas, apples, mango etc. A banana milkshake sweetened with honey may calm the stomach, top up low blood sugar levels as well as some of our electrolyte levels.. The milk soothes the stomach and rehydrates the system and may assist with hangover symptoms. Bananas replace important electrolytes, magnesium and potassium.

Schisandra fruit extract may also be helpful in the treatment of hangover. Schisandra is also rich in Vitamin C and E. If your stomach is feeling a little delicate try Nux vomica, a homeopathic medicine, helps relieve gas, bloating and nausea. Of course, the best advice of all would be not to drink at all and preserve your liver health!

My best hangover cure is to avoid one. Before going to bed, drink two or three large glasses of water real quick and right after one another. Don't go to the washroom, just go right to bed. Let your body absorb all of that water into your kidneys and the only thing that you'll wake up with, is a real urge to go pee.

Hangovers are another form of dehydration caused by the fact that alcohol disables your brain from telling your body to keep water in your system, that is why you go to the loo a lot when you're drunk. The best remedy is two glasses of water with 1 tablespoon of sugar & 1/4 teaspoon of salt .

Can of Irn-Bru and a double fried egg sandwich/roll (preferably from a greasy spoon café or burger van)

Sounds awful but it always works for me. The Irn-Bru replaces sugar and the grease stops the stomach from churning, plus the protein in the eggs helps.

Drink plenty of water as well to rehydrate yourself as the hangover is due to alcohol causing you to dehydrate - gives you the splitting headache.

Of course you could try the 'hair of the dog' route and knock back a quick shot of something but I'd not recommend that personally.

I have taken hydration tablets. I think they are made by alcha seltzer. I can't remember exactly what they are called, I believe they are called morning relief, but it is obvious when you see the packge what they are for. They are tablets that just drop into a glass of water and you drink them. The emegen-c packets also work well. Potassium and hydration is usually what works for me so eating a banana may help too. Rest up and feel better!!!

Drinking doesn't cause hangovers, waking up does. Pound some cold water, take two Advil and go back to sleep. I know, I do it everyday.

You need to re-hydrate youself as soon as possible. If you wake up still feeling all-over crappy, a regular Dr. Pepper is great.
