The Cape Crusader comes from Batman wearing a cape. The Dark Knight would be most of his work is done at night and he works for the good of man to rid evil.

I don't know who came up with "The Caped Crusader", but in 1986 Frank Miller wrote the graphic novel, The Dark Kningt Returns."
