Yes there are double standards and the worst thing is, is that we let kids listen to the radio where rappers make racist, sexist remarks everyday. Yet one man makes a comment and he gets kicked off the radio if that is the case then we shouldnt be playing songs that make racist, sexiist comments either.

there are a lot of mitigating factors:
1. What Ann Coulter said wasn't said on the air
2) She doesn't have a radio show to fire her from
3) Her comments were about a presidential candidate; i.e., a public figure, whereas Imus' were about private citizens
4) She is a woman, and institutions have to walk a very thin tightrope when dealing punitively with women. In this country, we just don't know how to hold women accountable, so we usually give them a pass.
5) What Imus said was about the ultimate victim class in this country - women. Nobody has mastered the "art" of victimhood better than women, though they largely exploit their victimhood with the collective guilt and sympathy of men.

______________________________________ relating to bill Maher's shaggy dog tale: From the vantage ingredient of an self reliant , what I see is that when liberals, or lefties, make such comments they might or is probably not liked by using some interior the black community, yet on an identical time, they don't look to be taken as demeaning or insulting because of the fact it is commonly used that a lefty regularly helps Obama. besides the undeniable fact that, while conservatives, or ideal-wingers, make such comments that's believed to be a slur or an insult because of the fact it is commonly used that conservatives regularly do not help Obama. i think of it is only that straightforward. btw, Imus' remark, "Nappy Headed Ho's", is only incorrect. And, even a liberal could have been chastised for asserting that. _____________________________________

I believe there are republican operatives who were at work, with the 08 elections not far and the anti-bush attitude of Imus. I think the comment of C Rice says mountains worth. We live in very scary times and I blame it on right wing religious nut cases.

Good Greif! Now I suppose every splinter group to the tiniest faction will have proscribed appelations. Animal Rights activists will be marching for the firing of any media spokesperson who refers to a dog as a cur or mutt....Where will it end.
Maybe so-called 'Gay' people aren't so thin-skinned that they would want a guy fired for what really only amounts to 'in' verbiage these days; a guy who has done and continues to do great things for kids with The Ranch and other charitable work ... and money.

Apparently so, I would much rather have Imus than that evil Ann Coulter, not that I ever listened to him.

NO..both IMUS and ANN and like so many others are hired for their shock effect! The difference here is....Al Sharpton’s JOB is to keep racism alive! Without it he would be out of work! Do you really think the Gays or any other group for that matter would want some loud mouth like Al Sharpton running around demanding folks lose their jobs for using words or phrases that they find offensive? I don't think so. It just creates more hatred. …DON’T LISTEN!..I don’t understand what is so hard about that! I can’t stand ANN COULTER..SHE MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL..I turn her off every time I see her on TV! Do I want to see her fired, NO because there are people out there that enjoy listening to what she has to say and it is not for me or anyone to deny them of that! First of all homosexuallity is not a race, religion, ethnic group nor is it the third sex! There is no comparison to racism and emotional disturbed/dysfuntional behaviour.
I did not know what 'nappy' meant when I first heard it, but you do not call any young woman a 'ho' (whore). Now that I understand a racist connotation to the term 'nappy' it is even more unacceptable.
But I do not recognize any equivalency between race and homosexuality.

In this country right now with this Administration in power it's OK to insult or assault the gay community, because they are anti-gay rights.
They are like non-people it is very sad and grossly unfair in my opinion. Our country is not only light years behind on this matter globally, we should be ashamed.

Apparently yes, anyone that has her on their show that allows her to use these derogate remarks should have to pay a huge fine, or better yet don't book her in any venue
