check all your wiring and grounds....But, depending on what motor you have....It could be that you have the push rods in the wrong position....Some of the General Motors V-6's have two different sized push rods for the intake and exhaust.....

So, double check with your service manual....

3.1? are all the plug in wire connectors plugged in. check the ones around the coil packs. one on left side and two on the right side. these are important. they plug into the ignition module. also did you install the push rods correctly? they are differnt lengths. also VERY important.
or the cylinder walls may have been cleaned of oil during process. if this is the case it will spin over and sound like it has now compression. if so try spraying a little oil in a vaccum source while someone is cranking the engine. not too much. this will also cause it to smoke a lot when it starts.

Its very likely you have massive airleak into the intake system, making the fuel-air mixture too lean, as a result of some parts of the intake system not properly fitted. Did you also had to remove and reinstall cylinder head as part of the task? Then I suggest you recheck the timing one more time.Goodluck!

Just replacing gaskets would not cause that, unless you have a vacuum leak, or did something wrong.

seems odd that it would keep it from starting, I could see leaking If It wasnt done right, but like the other answer you may have not re connected something.

make sure you connected everything you disconnected.

You also might mention whether it's turning over and not starting or if it's not turning over at all.

but more than likely, you've left a sensor unplugged.
