Something classy and small. Am I going through a mid life crisis?

Mary...you're definately not too old, and it's not stupid at all. I got my first tattoo @ 40. It is a burnt orange Texas Longhorn logo in the small of my back, small, and then 2 years later I got a small "forgetmenot" flower on the inside of my ankle. It's blue and I've had a lot of compliments on it. I'm not "wild" or anything like that. I do like to have fun, and my kids were fine with it. You're not going through a midlife crisis, girl, you're just getting started. Good Luck, and let us know what you decide.

Think about it some more before jumping in. How long have you wanted the tattoo for? I remember I went through a VERY small stage of wanting a tattoo when I was about 20 or so. I thought it would be cool (a celestial moon on my lower back- kinda cliche). But that did not last long at all-- because I knew I would get TIRED of it. Do you think you could live with your tattoo forever? If so, go for it! Try something small and classy like you said. But, I would look up info on tattoos and see if you are willing to keep up with the committment.

No, it's not stupid. Just make sure the tattoo will really mean something to you. Don't get one that you may regret getting later. Think hard on the choice of tattoo you want. I got one when I was in high school. I mainly just got it because I beleived it would be cool just to HAVE one at the time. It's a tribal type design on my lower back.Today, I somewhat regret it, because the tattoo itself has no meaning to me. I would have rather gotten something that had some type of meaning to it that fits my personality.

Nothing wrong with it!! I have 3 grown kids, 2 granddaughters and still young at heart!! My nose and tongue are pierced and I'm getting a tattoo this summer, my daughters are taking me. Have fun and do what feels good...you only live once.

Yes. I am in my 40's and have thought it would be cool as well. I came veryclose in the Army to getting one but the fear of hepatitis and the artist botching the artwork precluded me.

Spend the money on some nice jewelry instead.

That depends on you.
But for me, it's not nice to have a tattoo. I would prefer a simple necklace, a ring or a really nice watch.

It may not be the tattoo, but what you have tattooed. Regardless of what one says, if it makes you happy....go for it...

And if you are asking 'is that stupid', the answer is 'that-too'....

Do what makes you glad...

My mom got her first tattoos at 50...but they were gaudy. If it's something small and you've thought about it, then there's nothing wrong with it!
