As a teacher one should know how to impart the details given in the book to the students mind not by giving as it is but in his/her own style. The book given to the teachers is to know what to teach .They had also studied that. So, they have to teach by teaching in a REALISTIC way(by giving current examples sothat the students may also aware of the present world )and it should also reach the HEARTS of the students not the minds of the students. They have to teach in such a way that every student should be capable of answering any question in any time ,in any way.........And every student should proudly say that I am his/her student. Then only he/she is a BEST TEACHER.

YES/// she is unable to memorize the whole text book?
I can't believe you would think other wise. I have to follow along w/ a student while they are reading,,, if they are stuck on a word,,,, I am not going to know what that word is unless I look at it. The teachers manuals have a variety of topics in them that can further the discussion... that aren't in the students text book.. The manual also have the keys in them, learning activities...etc. etc. They also have a lot of study questions that help the students.. They also have the answer keys and worksheets to run off . We don't look at it the whole time,, we are teaching, and some days we dont' need it,, but it is out...
A lot of the times,, the teachers book will talk also about the author, or show maps that the students don't have.
So, YES>please use the book!
( When I go to church~ my preacher hold his bible... and looks at it from time to time.)

Teacher is not a God. In my opinion he should keep the books with him or her for reference and when a teacher keeps a book with him or her he or she gets more confidence. Many times students ask such a piculiar question that the teacher have no other alternative but to refer the book. So yes, the teacher should keep the book with him or her but not always see while teaching.

When I teach I look at the book for reference. When a student asks a question about a problem I will be seeing the same thing he/she is seeing and can answer the question properly and correctly. Books change periodically through the years when they are updated with new information, so it is very important that I have the book in front of me when I teach.
It would be nice if I could memorize everything in the book and all its problems but alas, I am but a poor human with a human mind that does not memorize vast quantities of material.

I teach and rarely use the book to look out of. However, sometimes I do need one if I am going to work a particular problem in the book as an example. I also usually check to make sure I am telling the students the correct page and questions for an assignment. So the answer is sometimes.

I don't think teachers should see the book while they are teaching. It makes them look incompetent. (Remember the Simpsons episode where Lisa steals all the teacher's manuals and the teachers freak out?) I had a college professor once whose lectures came out of the textbook... word for word. Believe me, it was boring and people started skipping class. I mean, why go to lecture when you'll get the same info by reading the book. I believe lectures are suppose to supplement the readings. If the teacher truly knows their stuff, then they should be prepared and be able to conduct class without the aid of a book.

While teaching the teacher should not see the book. But he must be aware of what is in the book and explain accordingly. While teaching he should look the expressions of students weather they are understanding or not ?
If any diagrams which are complicated then only he should explain with the help of book.

no a teacher is not supposed to see the book. today books are good enough so tht anyone who knows the language of the book can get get the matter. so even if a teacher needs books then she/he becomes equivalent of the student. so whats the need to even go to school. a teacher is actually supposed to know the content +deep knowledge & great understanding of the book then only she/he is fit to be a teacher.
