I am about to add some fish to my 10 gal aquarium. (white clouds and shrimp) Anyways, I was wondering, when I use the gravel vac will I need to take out all of the fish to clean it? I don't want to get them sucked up because they're little. (This has happened to me before, but the fish was caught in time). So anyways, what do I do?

No need to ever remove your fish for cleaning, that's stressful for the fish and a terrible idea honestly. I have had this happen before too but by going slow and keeping the siphon away from the fish you can usually avoid them. Also be ready to put your finger over the small end and stop the water if one does get in the large end of the siphon. Usually if you do that they will swim back out the bottom.

Unless you're doing a total water change, which isn't recommended anyway, NEVER take your fish out. There is no need. Taking the fish out of the tank will cause more stress. Just keep the gravel vac away from the fish, besides they will swim away once it gets close. I've never had a fish get sucked into the vac, however I've never really had small fish. The smallest fish I have is a clown. When putting water back into the tank, just make sure that the water is around the same temperature of the water that was already in the tank. You'll be just fine.

Remove the fish out only if you are doing 100% water change, for example if most of the fish are dying and the water is full of disease that you cant detect. You have to be careful not to suck the fish up, put the gravel vac in the very corner of the aquarium after you suck up all the dirt, so fish wont get sucked up.

When cleaning any aquairium it puts stress on the fish. The fish should be removed in to a bucket or other tank while cleaning. This will reduce the stress levels of the fish. After cleaning it is always a good idea to add a stress coat to the water.
